Chapter 4: Adventure Begins

Blue sky, bright sunlight, the fresh smell of an untamed meadow on the breeze. It's been a long time since I last experienced this. It feels nice.

I think I see a watchtower in the distance. People should be there, so that's where I think I'll head... oh, wait, I need to get my story straight. A young woman showing up with nothing on is gonna stand out in a bad way. I should take some time to make some clothes, a backpack, maybe some beddings, and shoes and socks as well.

I actually had to make modifications to my crafting design program to accommodate working in cloth and making clothes.

---

I saw something strange today. As a wannabe hero, I, Julian Serkin was out hunting slimes in the plains again. Being the third son of a lesser noble house, it was the only real hope I had of getting anywhere in life… especially since I kinda got kicked out of the army. *sigh*

While the slimes themselves aren't very dangerous, the tall grass hides them rather well, leaving me vulnerable to surprise attacks. What surprised me this time though, was seeing a beautiful young lady sitting in the fields doing something.

All I could see of her at first, was her gorgeous sky blue hair. As I approached though, I started getting attacked by more and more slimes. I found it strange that so many were here, yet she seemed unbothered by them. Did the slimes ignore her? I've never heard of slimes not attacking a person before.

---

*thud!* *swish!* *thud!* "Hah!"

While finishing up the boots I made, I heard some odd sounds. Looking around I see someone fighting off slimes. Eh? When did so many slimes show up? Were they drawn to me for some reason? … Oh, I am a lot stronger than them, maybe they wanted to be near me for faster power growth.

After making sure my white boots and socks were on properly, I stood up and pulled my white backpack on. Yes, all my stuff that I've made is white, even my simple one-piece dress. I don’t know what color to make things, and white looks nice. Brown would probably be the best way to avoid notice, but I don't like brown.

Though I look human, I'm really a slime. I’m also much stronger than the slimes around me, so all I have to do to scare them off is display a little hostility. It’s remarkably easy for monsters to detect hostility, I learned that while fooling around with options for my visual user interface.

With the slimes are gone, I can actually hold a conversation.

Young woman:
“Are you alright?”

Young man:
“Ah, yes I am. I've never seen so many slimes in one place before. Was it something you did?”

Young woman:
“Not on purpose. I was just fixing my gear, and didn't even notice they'd gathered like that until I overheard you fighting.”

Young man:
“Well, thanks to that, I got quite a bit of good experience. The name's Julian, nice to meet you.”

Young woman:
“Call me Ariel. Nice to meet you too. Is there a reason you were out here?”

Julian:
“Hunting slimes, like I do everyday. There's no money in it, but it is pretty easy, and provides experience. I hope to someday be a hero when the call comes.”

Ariel:
“I see, thank you for telling me.”

As I begin to head off towards the town...

Julian:
“Hey, is it alright if I accompany you to town? I was planning to head back about now anyway.”

Ariel:
“Sure, that's fine. I don't think I can offer much conversation though.”

Julian:
“Not a problem.”

Julian's view

Ariel was a beauty. Sure her face and build weren't anything special, but she was far too clean and pure. She looked like a noble, but lacked that stuck up attitude I so often saw. There was no way I'd believe she was a commoner. No commoner would ever be able to afford such fine clothes or stay so clean while traveling.

I thought I knew all the noble houses, yet I've never seen nor heard of a lady like Ariel. She shows no fear out here in the wilds. Even I am always a little nervous due to how common surprise attacks are here. Slimes may not be much of a threat, but that doesn't mean one can afford to be careless.

Ariel's view

While I did make a backpack and boots, I didn't have time to make beddings. Hopefully it doesn’t look too strange to be travelling with just a backpack. Since I don't really need sleep, I could work on that tonight... oh, wait, I need money. Not gonna be able to stay at an inn without money.

To get money, I'll need to sell something. What would be good? I could make something, but I'm not sure what. Equipment? Glassware? While I can get transparency and strength at the same time, my attempts at glass isn’t good enough to compete with modern glass for clarity. Might be good enough to compete with the glass making ability of this world though.

Guard’s view

Julian came back, following a young noble lady. The fool girl probably thinks she’s incognito or something, but those clothes are far too fine to be a commoners regardless of how plain the design. It’s strange though, there’s nothing in that direction but wilderness. So, where did she come from?
