Chapter 16: Terra talk

Terra:
“What sort of land are you interested in? Is there a specific location in town you want?”

Ariel:
“Well, I’m planning to make a place for some other people, so it might be best to consult with them. Sam? Do you think you could go and gather all your friends so we can discuss this together?”

Sam:
“Sure! Let’s meet in the alley where I first introduced you to them.”

Ariel:
“Agreed.”

As I walked towards where I’d first met Sam’s friends, I decided to try talking with Terra a little.

Ariel:
“What’s it like working for Fen?”

Terra:
“Well, I’m sure you’re aware of the benefits of being with a monster lord. The improved growth speed is amazing. I hope someday I can surpass him, but I know it’s unlikely. The monster lords are so far beyond us, that catching up seems impossible. However, we followers do have lots of contests. We fight a lot, fuck a lot, and eat a lot. It’s a lot of fun... and we all grow in power way faster than we would on our own in the wild. I really have no complaints. You envious?”

Ariel:
“No, I do wish I could grow in power faster, but I don’t wish to serve him. I’m really not suited for fighting anyway.”

Terra:
“I can tell. Unlimited cloning techniques are never worth the cost. You give up far too much power for it.”

Ariel:
“I hope to avoid fights.”

Terra:
“Talking like that makes you sound like a plant or spirit. Those are the ones who avoid fights. They are the weakest monster types for a reason, you know. Fights are a great way to speed up power growth, and if you don’t grow fast, you’ll never be able to catch up with those above you. Though, having convinced Fen to keep a clone of you near him at all times, you’ll probably gain power pretty fast anyway.”

Boy:
“Ariel! You’re here!”

Ariel:
“Hey.”

Boy:
“Who’s this?”

Ariel:
“This is Terra. She’s going to help us obtain a house.”

Boy:
“You’re going to buy a house? For us? Wha, how can you afford that? Are you rich?”

Ariel:
“Well, I negotiated with the lord. I wanted to gather everyone together so we can figure out what place is best together.”

Terra:
“I’m amazed halflings exist. Didn’t think humans and monsters could breed with each other.”

Ariel:
“Apparently they aren’t as different as had been assumed.”

Chapter 15: Negotiation

Late Morning:

Ariel:
“Come on, I still need to look into securing land and approval from the lord.”

Sam:
“We’re going to see the lord of the town?”

Ariel:
“Yup! Unless you want to stay behind and wait?”

Sam:
“No way! I’m just a little nervous.”

Ariel:
“It’ll be fine. He seems simple enough to please. Apparently he’s a glutton, that loves good food.”

While we walked to the palace, I made tiny test samples and tasted them to try and get the right flavor for the wine and dipping sauce I wanted to offer. I decided to also make a meat sauce, with meat. When I thought I had it right, I offered some to Sam, and he really liked it. Said he wanted to eat more of my cooking.

How exactly am I making drinks and meats? Well, much like how humans grow hair, that isn’t alive, I can grow things that aren’t alive and cut it off. Except, as a monster with self-modification, I can make my body create almost anything. If I want it to have intelligence or magic though, I have to make a clone.

Eventually, we reached the palace gates.

Ariel:
“Excuse me, I’d like to see Lord Fen Ger. I have some requests and some gifts.”

I then gave the guard a bottle of wine I’d made. The guard handed the wine bottle off to another, whom then took it into the palace. Not knowing what else to do, Sam and I simply waited until the messenger returned.

Messenger:
“Let them in.” *gate opens* “Follow me.”

Once again, I was escorted to the dining hall, and we took a seat at the table.

Fen:
“This is a good drink! Thank you. I must ask though, how did you get married? There’s no church in this town, and the ones in the other towns aren’t recognized by god. Oh, don’t be so surprised, I can see your titles, and a lot more besides.”

Ariel:
“I’m not really sure. We made promises to each other, and it happened.”

Fen:
“Huh, I guess god just took an interest in you. It does say you’re the first monster to ever fall in love. You’ve obviously chosen not to abandon your human roots. Emotions like love are just a liability to a monster. So, what brings you back?”

Ariel:
“Well, I came here because I was interested in obtaining some land so I could make a house for some people I met to live in. I felt it would be wise to obtain permission from you before leaving clones all over the place. As an offering I made a few things.”

I took out the three items I’d made.

“This device will produce a bottle of wine each day. The same as the one are drinking now.” I then moved on to the next “This device will make a bowl of dipping sauce for your meats each day.” As a bowl was already ready, I took it out, uncovered it, and presented it to them, then moved on to the last item. “This one will make a bowl of meat sauce.” I also uncovered and presented the bowl it made to them.

The dipping sauce was made to taste like a soy sauce based dip I remember my mom in my previous life making, while the meat sauce was like an italian meat sauce. Two very different flavors, both good with meat. I may not know the proper ingredients, but with patience and lots of experimentation, I was able to imitate the flavor.

The various monsters (in human form) at the table tried the offerings, and all appeared to enjoy it.

Fen:
“Delicious! I like this offering. Since you have cloning, can you make a copy of yourself as well?”

Ariel:
“Yes, I can.” I make another clone of myself, with the self-cleaning spell. “It’s little more than a really accurate doll though, since it will remain unconscious.”

Fen:
“I’m aware. Give me five. I know of at least one person I can bribe with this, and have a few other uses for it. With that, and the offerings, I’ll make sure you have suitable land and that it will be protected from others who might try to take it.”

Ariel:
“Thank you, I appreciate it.” I then made four more clones and handed them over to his servants that came to collect them.

Fen:
“Terra, go help her get whatever land she wants, and make sure it’s secured.”

Terra:
“Understood.”

The woman named Terra then escorted us out of the palace.

Chapter 14: Time with Sam

Sam:
“Would that patch be useful for me too?”

Ariel:
“Oh, right, it should be.”

I gave Sam a patch too. He asked for it to be placed on the back of his right hand, so he could see it, and be reminded of me.

After that, we went to go eat breakfast, and Sam wanted to visit my room at the inn which I was still paying for. Before we began anything, I first replaced the mattress of the bed with one of my own creation since it would be far more comfortable.

Sam:
“Hey, um… you can change pretty much anything about yourself, right?”

Ariel:
“Yeah, why? Anything you want me to change?”

Sam:
“Well… I was thinking that if your sensitivity was higher, I could give you even greater pleasure, and enjoy making you orgasm more.”

He seemed a little embarrassed as he said that. How amusingly cute.

Ariel:
“Sure, I can give that a try.”

Concentrating to raise my sensitivity, I also focused more than usual upon my senses, and realized something: I could feel everything my clones felt, though only when I focused on it. I also realized someone was fucking one of them. Is that why they all wanted one? I don’t really mind… but I wasn’t expecting it. Not that I had any idea what to expect.

Sam:
“You seem to be a lot more aroused than before. Did I turn you on already?”

Ariel:
“It seems I can feel what my clones feel.”

Sam:
“Eh? Is someone-”

I interrupted him with a kiss.

Ariel:
“Don’t worry about it, I only felt it because I was actively focusing on what I could feel while adjusting my sensitivity. Didn’t want to make a mistake.”

Sam:
“Seriously, I’m curious now, is someone having sex with one of your clones?”

Ariel:
“Yeah. Don’t worry about it. It’s just a living doll.”

Sam:
“But you can feel it.”

Ariel:
“As I said, it’s only when I pay attention, or start thinking about them, like now when you remind me.”

Sam:
“So, every time I ask you about your clones getting fucked, you’re going to feel it?”

Ariel:
“If you ask me about my clones, I’ll feel what they feel. It’s not like your friends will be fucking them all the time.”

Sam:
“I’m not sure how I feel about them fucking your clones.”

Ariel:
“They’re just dolls. Dolls that look like me… are you worried about them lusting after me?”

Sam:
“I don’t really want to share you. I want to be the one who makes you happy, and gives you pleasure.”

Ariel:
“Then don’t worry about the dolls. The dolls aren’t me. No one is going to make me happy by just playing with my clones, and if you want to give me pleasure, then get started already.”

To prove my point, I took the lead this time, and many orgasms later…

Ariel:
“Are you still worried?”

Sam:
“You did say you couldn’t promise not to love another guy.”

Ariel:
“Yeah, I can’t promise that. I do want to keep you happy, and I greatly enjoy being with you. If the others are content with a mere clone, I’m happy to give them away. I can’t say I understand your feelings, I’d be happy to see you sharing love and happiness with others, especially if you invited me to join in. Love and happiness are things I want everyone to enjoy, and the happier I am, the more I want to share it with others, especially those responsible for it. I don’t ever want to take it away from you.”

Sam:
“Makes me wish I was as easygoing about it as you. Are you sure you’re not an angel? The things you say sound like the kind of unrealistic generosity of the angels in myth. The servants of god that work to make the world a better place.”

Ariel:
“Pretty sure I’m not an Angel, but I have always been weird. I didn’t tell you before, but I have memories of my previous life. There’s lots of holes in my memories of it, but I do remember being disappointed when I realized that most people didn’t think the same way that I did.”

Sam:
“What was so disappointing about it? Knowing that others are selfish?”

Ariel:
“While that was some of it, what disappointed me most was realizing that no one could be expected to ever really understand me. I wanted to be understood, and in time came to learn that understanding comes from similarity. So, the more different I am from everyone else, the harder it will be to get understood, and even the act of trying to learn about all this, makes me even more different. Most people just speak their mind and don’t worry about being understood. When with similar people, it works, and when they aren’t understood, they just blame the other party.”

Sam:
“You want to be understood?”

Ariel:
“Yeah, I do.”

Sam:
“I’ll do my best.”

Chapter 13: Working on Solutions

In my dreams…

Expanding internal storage to enable usable spaces isn’t very difficult. If anything it’s actually simpler than some other tricks of storage. Removing the ability to stop time for stored objects actually makes the entire thing cheaper despite adding the ability to create entire rooms. Stopping time for stored objects and holding them in stasis was really just there because of what I thought about when I thought about item storage in games.

So all I need to do then, is make a clone into a doorway, and have it let people into its internal storage, and to shape that storage into a room. I should give it some form of lighting. Simplest method is to give it a light spell that tracks the sun. That way tracking day and night is simple. Then add some basic light creating tools for night lighting, and maybe a switch for turning off the sun tracking light when people want to sleep during the day.

For bedding, I’ll put a massive foam mattress at the end of the room, with a ramp on one side to help smaller people get onto it, since it won’t just be Adults using it.

I’ll add a cleaning spell to the room, so everyone and everything brought in is cleaned and kept clean. Don’t want to have to deal with messes. Unfortunately, the cleaning spell I use really just moves dirt, it doesn’t destroy it. So to actually get rid of it after it hits the floor, I’ll need to have the floor absorb the dirt and other messes that get on it.

I should add a closet and dresser so people can store clothes if they want. Along with coat rack and such. Not enough room to add more. Especially with half the room being taken up by the bed, since I need it to be big enough for all 8 of us.

I have no intention of taking the room with me when I leave, so I should find a permanent place for it. As none of them own any land, I should look into buying some. For that I’m gonna need to figure out what I can sell for money, then figure out how and where to buy land.

The next project is figuring out how to cure ailments. While I could try to improve my sorcery ability, that seems like an expensive and difficult way of doing it. My specialties are in changing my own body, and creating new bodies (clones). So I need a way to affect others.

My first thought is fusion, but that’s too big. A simple connection might be viable though. A way to connect myself or one of my other bodies to another person, and then share abilities with them. To keep costs down, it should be limited to granting basic stats. If I make it so the granting body can’t act, that will make it even cheaper.

If this solution is going to last long term, after I’m gone, then I need something that can be shared and spread without me there. If I create a small attachable body, that grants improved vitality and recovery (with the ability to recover from any ailment, disease, or injury just like I will given time), and grant that body the ability to duplicate itself over time, a person could take off the extras and give them to others.

Ability: Can attach to other creatures. While attached, cannot act (except to detach if desired). If the creature attached to has lower stats or recovery than the body attached to them, they gain a significant portion of the difference. A single target cannot benefit from more than one such attachment’s stat boosting at a time.

Perfect, this ability is actually super cheap, because it can’t make a creature stronger than me, and cannot assist a creature stronger than me. At best, it can help a creature of equal overall power reduce their weaknesses. As such, the persuasive power of this ability for gaining allies or protection is very low, which is why the cost is so low. Insignificant even. Perfect.

I’ll make the body something like a sticker. When attached it should look like a tattoo. I could have it boost stats other than vitality, but the goal here is disease curing and prevention.

Next, I… oh, I’m out of time.

---

The next day, I went out shopping with Sam. I discovered that the main product of this town was food, and they actually exported meat. Eating some of the tasty meat products being sold, I discovered the meat was monster meat. Some poor monster was probably being chopped up for food, and then allowed to regenerate. That wolf lord Fen is almost certainly responsible.

Thinking about this I concluded the most practical thing to sell would be food related. Maybe I could create a spice plant, or something that makes milk. Now that I’ve taken off some of the limiters on my self-modification, I should be able to create all sorts of things. It’s not like taste and flavor are considered powerful in this system. Making myself or my clones taste good should be simple. A bigger issue is knowing what tastes to create.

Normally my first thought would be sweets and candies. Maybe chocolate. However, this town is run by a wolf lord, so meats and things that are good with meat is more likely to gain approval. It is important to provide something he likes if I want him to protect the home I create. I don’t think the people I’ll be leaving to live in it will be able to protect it on their own.

It seems this project is going to get rather big.

That night, I made a special large panel, the size of two doors, side by side. It was designed so that each side was a one-way entrance/exit so that people wouldn’t collide with each other when going in and out, since it’s not possible to see what’s on the other side. I made sure the side that was not passable would be white, while the side that was, was instead made reflective, like a mirror. The reflective surface would ripple when touched, like the surface of a pond, while the white side remained firm and solid.

After placing the magical door I’d made upon a wall in the room Sam’s Mom was staying in, I invited the whole crew of beastkin inside so we could share the big room and giant bed that night.

We didn’t actually get to sleep until fairly late, as they wanted me to explain how I made it. This led to me showing off the cloning by making an actual full size copy of myself, and then I ended up making a whole bunch of them as each of the beastkin wanted one. Not sure why they want them. It’s basically just a very realistic, life-size doll, since the clones are always asleep, and I’ve not really programmed them with anything. For convenience I ended up adding a spell to the clones so they would self-clean. The bed ended up kinda crowded with all the extra bodies.

---

While I slept, I contemplated what I’d learned and what I should do. A lot of the best meat sauces need red wine, but from what I’ve seen, there is no wine in this town. There were cheap ales and beers, but no wine. Perhaps I should focus on making a good flavorful red wine. Sadly, this isn’t something I can do while sleeping like this, since I can’t taste test my plans, and predicting the taste of something I haven’t actually made is tricky. I also have no way of preserving foods properly. I can make things cold, but actual purification of food requires more than mere rank 1 sorcery.

I can still design a dispenser system. I think the best might be a device that dispenses bottles filled with whatever fluid I choose to make. Whether it be wine or sauce.

… what happens to the bottles after they are used and emptied? Does it just become trash? That might be bad. Perhaps, once the bottle is emptied, it disappears? What if someone wants to use it for other things? I feel like the quality of the bottle is high enough that destroying them automatically is a waste, yet at the same time, it seems like not destroying them will lead to problems.

What if the bottles were easy to destroy? Simply making them frail is no good. Give them a branding sticker? A sticker that if removed causes both sticker and bottle to vanish? Self-destruction isn’t actually something I can do, but vaporization is viable. So, I can have the sticker and bottle transform into a tiny amount of gas if separated from each other. I should make it so they won’t separate by accident. Maybe making it so the sticker only comes off if the bottle is empty could help.

For the sticker design, I think I’ll just use the same light-pink rose design that I used for the vitality patches. Now I need to work on the bottle design...

---

When I woke in the morning, I realized the magic fog which blocked my field perception within the city, wasn’t present inside the room I made. I took this opportunity to begin teaching field perception to everyone. Not all of them got it right away, and people needed to eat, so we split up and decided to finish the lessons later.

As I left, I realized I hadn’t yet given Sam’s mother the vitality patch I designed. I made it so after it’s attached it looks like a light pink rose tattoo. A rose, because I think they are pretty, and light pink, because a deep red would stand out too much. While she did thank me for it after I explained what it’d do, and how it could be given to others when it replicated, I got the feeling she didn’t really believe me. Seemed like she’d already given up hope on her own future, and was simply glad Sam had gained a future. Might be fun to see her surprise when she recovers.
